Activesync USB Connection Issues

Bookmark this Pocket PC Freeware

One of the most frustrating problems I have encountered with the activesync software is that it doesn’t always like to establish a connection (or sync up) with my computer. In some cases upon connecting my phone to the PC via the USB cable, the computer would even stop responding to other tasks, hang or lock up. Once the USB cable is removed from the phone, the computer would respond again.

As it turns out, the problem is due to a feature option in Windows Mobile 6 called advanced network functionality. I have since disabled this feature and activesync USB connections have become much more stable. When this feature is disabled, it allows the device to be connected via USB Serial Sync Mode instead of USB RNDIS Sync Mode.

How to Fix Activesync USB Connection Problems:

  1. From your Windows Mobile device, navigate to Start -> Settings
  2. From the Settings page, select the Connections tab and then click the USB to PC icon
  3. Uncheck the option to Enable advanced network functionality and click ok
  4. USB to PC

Now, when you connect your Windows Mobile device to your PC, the activesync connection should not only take less time to establish, but you should also encounter less problems with your active USB connection.
